The damages caused by the Boko Haram insurgency in the Northeast cannot be overemphasized. Women have been exposed to these conflicts and have suffered from displacement and separation from family and friends, loss of loved ones, the constant fear of getting killed in attacks, bodily defacement and even gender-based violence.

These usually have short and long term effects on those who have experienced these acts directly and indirectly. This has led to severe Psychosocial damages thereby hampering on their ability to function normally in their society.

Those who have experienced these continue to live with severe stages of trauma with little or no basic amenities like housing, healthcare, education, water, and sanitation. Not only did it worsen their mental state, but it has also put a strain on their Psychosocial well being

With support from the North East Regional Initiative (NERI), Safer World Foundation trained 38 Psycho-Social Support care givers drawn from Damasak, Gubio, Kanaman, Mubi, Maiduguri, Monguno, and Geidam.

Through this activity, their capacity will be strengthen so they can support other women in their communities who have been traumatized by disseminating key messages on how they can cope with emergency situations
